Moreover, Ndaleentan endeavours to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Manjaku by organising diverse programs and events that foster cross-cultural understanding within the Gambia and beyond.

A Fascinating Story

The Manjaku

Manjaku culture has a rich and distinct history, characterized by unique cultural practices that have been well-preserved over the years. However, it is disheartening to acknowledge that in recent times, our beautiful culture and traditions have been deemed as unclean and outdated by many in the younger generation. Unfortunately, there has been a noticeable decline in the preservation of these remarkable cultural practices.

Why Preserve Our Culture?

  1. Passing down to future generations: Preserving our culture ensures that the next generation has the opportunity to learn from and appreciate our traditions, values, and customs. It allows them to connect with their roots and understand their cultural heritage.
  2. Cultural distinctiveness: By preserving our culture, we maintain our unique identity as a distinct cultural group. It helps us stand apart from other cultural groups and contributes to the diversity and richness of the global cultural tapestry.
  3. Teaching and shaping younger generations: Our culture serves as a valuable tool to teach and shape younger generations. It imparts important life lessons, moral values, and social norms that are specific to our community. Preserving our cultural practices provides a framework for educating and guiding the younger generation.
